The idea for the Desert Bicycle Club came to Jack and Judy Tiano while bicycling in Italy in 1998. On a bright sunny Sunday they were riding through the hills of Tuscany when a large group of Italian cyclists rode past them saying "ciao" and "bella bicicletta" (hello and nice bike in Italian). As they passed, Jack and Judy were impressed with the camaraderie of the group, and the fun they were having. They talked to them over expresso in the next town and found out they were a local Italian cycling club.
Jack and Judy decided it would be great to have a club like this in the desert. When they returned home, they searched the internet and figured out how to start a bike club. Jack mentioned the idea to Dave O'Donnell, owner of Tri-A-Bike and he introduced him to David Firestone and Peter St. Louis. With there help and support the club quickly grew.
