ALERT La Quinta WARNING
Author: Ride Committee
Date: 02/28/2010 08:41:30 PM
We have received phone calls/e-mails from fellow Club Members that have received Citations in the La Quinta Cove area this weekend. The Citations have been for various things from not stopping at Stop Signs to riding outside the bike lane. We are consistantly hearing that the La Quinta Police are specifically out for cyclist. Be CAREFUL while cycling particularly in La Quinta. Be careful coming down out of the Cove as the Police have said they WILL stop any cyclist that does not stop at the stop signs going up and/or coming down the Cove!

A couple of riders were ask if they belong to the Bicycle Club! One rider told us that the Police told them that a local resident had a conflict with a Club Member and took the complaint to the La Quinta Police. Should anyone have any information about this issue, please let the club know by e-mailing cycleclub@yahoo.com or e-mailing the Club President, Bill Lightner at wlightner@dc.rr.com.

We understand (however do not have verification) that if you are asked for and provide a Drivers License that the Citation WILL affect your License/Insurance! As a Bicyclist, you are NOT require to carry a Drivers License. You may consider carrying another form of ID. By not providing your License or denying that your are carry one that you really do have one on your person WILL create more severe issiues for you with the Police!!

Please be CAREFUL out there!!
