President’s Message

 By Sharon Fletcher

Dear Desert Bike Club Members,

As your new president, I wanted to introduce myself to those of you who do not know me. I came to the desert two years ago from Florida. I was born in Maryland (Go Redskins) and moved to Charlotte, NC where I grew up and went to UNC (Go Heels) and then Furman University. After working in Germany for a few years, I came back to the east coast and headed to Florida in search of warm weather. Having survived 4 hurricanes in one year and learning to shift gears 3 times just to cross a drawbridge, I headed west in search of no rain, heat and hills. I am proud to call Palm Desert my home and it is here where I want to hang my hat (or visor) for good.

Although my chosen profession is golf; I would rather be pedaling on my bike than shooting pars on the course. I love cycling and I thank all of you for welcoming me into the desert. I hope to pay your kindness forward. That is why I want to welcome all of you to post photos of your accomplishments. If you compete in a road race, triathlon or century-please post these photos in the photos section of the website. This is not bragging, it is allowing us to share in your personal accomplishments as we are all riding on the same team. Speaking of which, lets all ride like we are all on the same team..Help each other out, wait for people if they are caught at lights and be wary of your teammates. Jerseys are still available and we want all of you to show your support for the club by wearing the club jersey on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Next month I will spotlight both a charter member and a new member (both must have a club jersey to be in the running) in the newsletter so we can get to know each other a little better than just being able to recognize the bike we ride. I ride a Jack Kane-a good ol' North Carolina bike builder.

We also have a new face book page cycleclub@yahoo.com . You may see my bike and my name as the friend invite as I erroneously set it up and used my name instead of bike club. I encourage all of you to join as friends and use face book and/or the website www.cycleclub.com to post any other rides you may want to do. Who knows, maybe you will get more people to join you.
Lastly, I really do want to hear from you and your ideas. That is why I am having our next club meeting at Worlds Gym off HWY 111 and Town Center Way. Eric Domer (a certified nutritionalist and personal trainer) will give a 20 minute talk and we will have a meeting to follow. The meeting is August 3 at 7:30pm. Hope to see you all then.

Until next time...LIVESTRONG

SHARON "FLETCH"
