Desert Riding Tips
- Be sure to bring water - especially in the warmer months.
- Dress in layers - during winter, the mornings are cool, but it will warm up as it gets later. If you're riding in the warm weather, start your ride early.
- Bring a map - there are several free entertainment guides available that have maps.
- Wear a helmet - it could save your life, or prevent serious injury. There are only two types of riders - those who have fallen, and those who will.
- Stay Hydrated - drink fluids on a regular basis
- Sunscreen - stay healthy; don't cook your skin.

Standard Saturday weekly ROUTES:
- Group A - typically travels north up Portola, east on Frank Sinatra, north on Cook, east on Varner & 38th, then north on Washington that becomes Ramon. Then north up Thousand Palms Canyon Road (4.5 mile climb) and east on to Dillon Road, returning via Indio and La Quinta (Racers and very fit riders, speed avg. 21+ mph, 45+ miles)
NOTE: If too windy on north side of freeway, route may be modified to proceed past car dealerships on Varner and proceed east to Dillon Rd, then return thru Indio and la Quinta.
- Group B - swings off Portola east onto Frank Sinatra, across Country Club and up Oasis Club Drive, east on Hovley, south on Warner Trail, east on Miles to Adams, south on Adams to Ave 50, then west to Washington, west on 50th and over and around the La Quinta Cove, regrouping at the Village Service Station and Food Mart. The ride then goes back to Ave 52 and east to Jefferson, turning south towards PGA West and travels out to Trilogy Golf Club. This is basically an "out-and-back" loop, returning back past PGA West to Jefferson, west on 48th, north on Adams back to 111 and west all the way to the Bagel Bistro (Fit recreational riders with group riding skills, speed avg 19 mph, 45 miles ) Click here for Route Map
- Group C - follows a similar slightly shorter route. Because of its more moderate pace and smaller group size this ride offers a greater opportunity for social interaction. It is intended to be a solid ride at a good pace with a smaller group. If there are times that you don't feel up to the fast-paced Saturday ride this will give you an additional option. This ride opens up an opportunity to good riders who don't have the time to train on a regular basis but would like to ride at a respectable and challenging pace. It also offers an opportunity to those riders who may have ridden with the faster groups and then found themselves off the bike for a period of time. They can use this group to train back up to the faster paced level. (speed avg 15 mph, 42 miles with defined cut-off routes to shorten ride) Click here for Route Map
